Going through a divorce can be an incredibly stressful time. It can be hard to separate the divorce process from the rest of your life, as a divorce deals with all aspects of your life: your money, your children and your property. In order to get through the process, it is advisable to not let it consume your every waking moment. Life is meant to be enjoyed and moments savored.

1st Create a Support System

First, it is important to find yourself a support system, whether that be a therapist, minister or rabbi. Some people do not like the idea of therapy – however, it is really important to garner support from an objective source. You certainly do not want to wear out your relationships with your friends or family because those are incredibly important relationships. Let’s face it, your friends and family care about you and they may only tell you what you want to hear, not what you need to hear.

2nd Foster a Good Working Relationship with your Attorney

Second, it is important to have a good working relationship with your attorney. You may need to divulge some very personal things to him or her. So, it is in your best interest to choose an attorney when you feel a sense of confidence and comfort. If your gut tells you it is not the right fit, it probably is not the right fit.

3rd Follow Through as Requested

Third, follow up with your attorney when she asks for information needed. The more thorough you can be hopefully the result will be that your case may go smoother.

4th Deal with your Emotions, Do Not Ignore Them

Finally, and perhaps most important: deal with whatever emotions you are feeling, whether it is sadness, anger or anywhere in between. If you do not deal with your emotions, it will be hard to have a fulfilling life after divorce. Going through a divorce is difficult and you may struggle often, not knowing who you really are or where you are really going. The only way to get through it is to literally trudge through it and do what needs to be done and once it is over, you can begin to heal. Healing is paramount and in the healing you will find a fuller and happier life.
